Bridge strengthening works set to begin in South Staffordshire
Essential work to strengthen a road bridge in Enville will start next week.
From Monday, October 6, Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews will be carrying out strengthening works to Morfe Mill Bridge, which carries Morfe House Lane over Philley Brook.
The project involves installing a concrete saddle and new parapets, adding scour protection and undertaking brickwork repairs and repointing to extend the bridge’s lifespan.
To ensure that the work can be carried out safely, Morfe House Lane will be closed from Poolhouse Farm to Morfe House farm.
Access to properties will be maintained but there will be no through route until the scheme is completed and a clearly signed diversion route will be in place.
The strengthening works, costing £300,000, is expected to take around 10 weeks to complete.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said: “Morfe Mill Bridge is estimated to be more than 100 years old, and like all our bridges, it undergoes regular inspections to ensure it remains safe and fit for purpose.
“These important strengthening works will help protect the bridge for many years to come, preventing the need for more disruptive repairs in the future.
"We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while we carry out this important work.”
