Multi-vehicle rush hour collision on M6 - long delays for motorists

Motorists have been warned to expect long delays on the M6 after a multiple-vehicle rush-hour collision.

The collision occurred at around 5.30pm today on the southbound carriageway between Junction 6 for Birmingham and the M42 link at Junction 4 and saw 45 minutes of delays while traffic officers from National Highways worked to clear the scene.

A spokesman for National Highways said: "Two of three lanes are closed on the M6 southbound between junction 6 for Birmingham and junction 4A for the M42 link following a multiple-vehicle collision.

"All emergency services and traffic officers from National Highways are working at the scene with recovery arranged and en route. 

"There are 45 minute delays on the approach."

A further update at 6.45pm said that all lanes had reopened and "no significant delays" remained.
