Train services cancelled and rail replacement buses being prepared after tree falls and blocks line near Hagley

A major railway line has been closed and rail replacement buses are being sent out after a tree fell over and blocked the line.

The Snow Hill Line has been closed between Stourbridge Junction and Kidderminster after the tree fell on the line near Hagley, blocking the line on both sides, just after 11.25am.

West Midlands Railway said that tickets would be valid for travel on National Express Bus Services between Birmingham and Stourbridge, while road transport would be provided to shuttle passengers between Stourbridge Junction and Worcester.

The rail provider also said that engineers from Network Rail were on the way to the scene to resolve the issue.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a tree blocking the line at Hagley, we are unable to run a train service past Stourbridge Junction.

"Your ticket is valid for travel on the National Express Bus Service between Birmingham and Stourbridge. 

"Road transport will shuttle Between Stourbridge Junction and Worcester. We estimate the transport shuttle to commence with the hour.

"Network Rail Engineers are enroute with an ETA of 60 minutes.

"Network Rail Mobile Operations Manager is on-site, with further updates to follow."

It was confirmed later at 1.49pm that the tree had been removed and the line had been reopened.
