Railway track damage near Smethwick to blame for train disruptions
Track damage caused when a maintenance train "ran through" points outside a depot in Smethwick has caused disruption to services.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of the morning outside the Soho railway depot in Smethwick, has resulted in fewer carriages operating on West Midlands Railway services on Thursday (7).
West Midlands Railways initially reported that a derailed Network Rail engineering train was the cause of the problem, but has since given an update stating that an engineering train "ran through" a set of points in the early hours of the morning, causing damage to the points outside the depot.

A West Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “Due to a damaged set of points restricting access to and from our electric train depot in Soho, some services are formed of fewer carriages than usual today (Thursday, August 7).
“We apologise to affected customers for the inconvenience caused. Network Rail is working to repair the damaged points as quickly as possible and we expect normal service to resume tomorrow.”
The operator said access to the depot has been reduced as a result.
