Train commuters delayed after cable theft near Coseley Railway Station

Thousands of commuters experienced delays on dozens of trains between Birmingham and Wolverhampton after cable was stolen.

British Transport Police officers were called by rail staff at 4.10am on Monday to reports of a cable theft at Coseley railway station, causing a problem in the signalling system.

Passengers at Coseley, Tipton, Dudley Port and more experienced delays as a result.

London Midland trains were running at a reduced speed due to the theft, causing knock-on delays for travellers.

A spokesperson for London Midland said: "The cable theft caused delays on all services between Birmingham and Wolverhampton during rush hour until 12pm.

"It affected thousands of people and dozens of trains."

Officers are investigating the theft and are urging anyone with information to call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 44 24/4/17.
