The accident happened at around 1.40pm affecting services on the line between Stourbridge Town and Junction stations.

The vehicle hit the lamp post in Parkfield Road which runs adjacent to the track.

Replacement taxis were operating while council engineers and Network Rail examined the track.

Network Rail spokesman Simon Masters said: "Following the collision, the lamp post was damaged by the car and was pushed over a wall dividing the road and railway line and was hanging precariously over the railway.

"Police requested that the line between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction be blocked until local highways could retrieve and repair the light."

Services between Junction and Town stations had resumed by around 4.45pm
