Frustrated drivers have reported being held up more than an hour in the tailbacks which affected the A449 Stafford Road, the A460 Cannock Road and Wednesfield Road.
West Midlands Police said a lorry had crashed with a car at around 8.40am near the junction with Wednesfield Road but there were no injuries.
Drivers were also affected by failed traffic lights near the Broad Street junction - but Wolverhampton Council said the problem lasted only a few minutes.
Shortly before 10am, Paul Brown, council spokesman, said the lorry was being removed.
