Railway bridge work delayed a month
Major work to rebuild a railway bridge which has caused long traffic delays is to overrun by a month, it was revealed today.
As part of the £30 million electrification of the Chase Lane, a section of Broad Lane which links Bloxwich and Essington has been closed since November with the project due to be finished by April.
But a four-week extension has now been granted to Network Rail.
Broad Lane is used by motorists travelling between Bloxwich and Essington and traffic coming off the M6. A diversion route will be in operation for traffic using Broad Lane, Bursnips Road, Essington Road and Sneyd Lane.
South Staffordshire Council and Essington Parish Council, Councillor David Clifft, said: "Though the extension is disappointing the work on raising the height and widening the bridge was crucial to the electrification of the line. The improvements will offer a better service and encourage new businesses.
