The firm had originally pledged £875,000 for the region as part of a national £7m compensation package but has upped this to £1m, according to the transport authority.

Around £600,000 is to be spent on an upgrade of CCTV at train station car parks across the region while more ticket machines will be installed to cut queues.

The plans have to be sent to the Department for Transport for approval, as the Government was behind the decision to make London Midland come up with the £7m package to compensate for the disruption. Between October and December passengers were forced to check for daily updates on whether or not their trains would even run, while many were forced to get off miles away from their destination.

Under the scheme CCTV will be improved at Walsall, Tame Bridge Parkway and Sandwell and Dudley.

The package also included five free tickets for season ticket holders who were affected by the problems last year.
