Staffordshire County Council boss in HS2 blight call
Compensation payouts should be increased for people whose homes are blighted by the planned high speed rail line, a council transport boss has said.
Councillor Mike Maryon from Staffordshire County Council has called on the Government to be more generous with residents after the High Court ruled consultation on compensation had been unfair.
The challenge around compensation was the only one out of 10 to be upheld by the court. It means work is still able to take place on the £32.7 billion scheme.
Councillor Maryon, Staffordshire County Council's transport chief, said: "We want to see more generous compensation offered to residents over a wider area."
Lichfield District Council leader Councillor Mike Wilcox, said: "We are pleased the judge agreed with HS2 Action Alliance's challenge that the property compensation consultation was flawed."
