The West Bromwich improvements associated with the opening of the new underpass include plans to improve the exit from Lyndon near Sandwell Hospital on to All Saints Way, and improvements to the traffic flow through Carters Green. It comes after the A41 underpass opened on Monday following two years of disruption for motorists.

Council chiefs have revealed that following the opening of the underpass, they can concentrate on the roads that feed on and off the A41.

Now that the road is open, highways chiefs will assess the traffic flow and over the next 12 months will concentrate on the works associated with the A41 project.

Neighbourhoods boss Councillor Ian Jones said: "We have plans for Lyndon, near Sandwell Hospital, and we are looking at restricting the movement at that junction onto All Saints Way."

Councillor Jones acknowledged that there had been a number traffic collisions at that junction over the years and said : "Highways are looking at the option of making it a one way system, but obviously this would need to go through a consultation process. The work would include a number of improvements to the road safety at that junction."

Councillor Jones said they would also be looking at the traffic flow through Carters Green.

He said: "We will be focussing on reducing the snarl-ups that regularly occur around the area. Until this road has opened we have not been fully able to assess the flow of traffic, now we can do this."

Councillor Jones expects the work to take place over the next 12 months.

The new underpass has been designed to speed up traffic flow along the dual carriageway.
