Transport museum revs up for move
The future of an historic transport museum has been secured after volunteers found a new home.
The Aston Manor Road Transport Museum is moving to an empty unit, in Shenstone Drive, Aldridge, after the charity agreed a lease with the site's owners. Members have been desperately scouring for a new home after being told they must leave their current premises at Beecham Business Park in the town by the end of the month.
The former HS Lifecare International premises was offered by owners Mike Cooper and Adrian Hipkins after an appeal to help the museum in the Express & Star.
Delighted volunteers are now moving the collection of up to 30 buses and commercial vehicles into the unit. It is expected to open to the public by next spring with the aim of establishing a fully operational museum.
Director Alan Bishop said: "We are really chuffed. We are busy now moving things around so we can start to put it into shape."
Anyone interested in helping out the museum should call 0121 308 0659 or 0121 308 4400.
