A signpost was also knocked down when the red Citroen came off Stafford Street in Wolverhampton in wet weather at around 7.30am.
The busy road, just off the city's ring road, was partially blocked because of the accident, causing tailbacks.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene but the driver was unharmed.
West Midlands Police spokeswoman Gina Lycett said: "The car was driving towards the motorway and went into the central reservation.
"There were no injured and the council is coming along to sort all the mess out."
