Six new jobs created as Tesco opens new store near Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter

Tesco has celebrated the opening of a new store near Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, with six new jobs created.

The new Tesco Express store, in Newhall Street, opened its doors earlier today (Thursday July 30).

Store manager Henna Hussain said: “I’m incredibly excited to be opening and managing our Newhall Street Express. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build an energetic team, support our vibrant community, and create an environment where colleagues and customers feel welcomed.

“Opening a new store is a real milestone in my career; I’ve been a proud member of the Tesco team for 15 years, and I’m delighted to be leading on this store’s launch – there’s something special about opening the doors for the very first time, meeting the local community, and delivering great customer service. I can’t wait to get started with my team and make a real difference.”

The new store, which features a selection of food-to-go options, an in-store bakery and a Costa Coffee machine, is staffed by 12 business colleagues - six of whom have just joined the Tesco team.

Local schools and community projects can apply for support through Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, with up to £1,500 in grants available.

Customers can also vote for good causes they want to support by dropping Tesco blue tokens received at the checkout into voting boxes as they leave the store. Each funding round features three local projects, with grants awarded based on the number of tokens received.

Birmingham Newhall Street Express is also participating in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food from every Tesco store to charities and community groups at the end of each day.
