Speeding driver jailed for killing cyclist on West Midlands road
Jayden Adams will spend 12 years behind bars after causing the death of Thomas Brown.
A driver who was doing more than twice the legal speed limit on a Birmingham road when he collided with a cyclist has been jailed.
West Midlands Police said Jayden Adams was behind the wheel of a Seat Leon and doing more than double the 30mph speed limit on Heath Way in Hodge Hill, shortly before he collided with cyclist Thomas Brown on April 26, 2025.
The 29-year-old Mr Brown, a father-of-one, suffered fatal injuries and died in hospital three days later.
At Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday, September 10, Adams, 27, of Over Pool Road in Ward End, was jailed for 12 years after previously pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without a licence and perverting the course of justice. He was also banned from driving for 12 years.

The court had heard how, immediately after the collision, Adams drove off, abandoned the vehicle only to return to it later that day to retrieve and burn it.
Enquiries were made and officers from West Midlands Police arrested Adams, who had initially lied claiming to be a passenger in the vehicle.
Detective Sargent Chloe Collins, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Adams lied hoping he would get away with what he had done. His actions were callous.
“Fortunately, we were able to prove he was the driver on that day. He will now spend many years behind bars where he can reflect on his actions.
“Our thoughts remain with Mr Brown’s family and friends who have been left devastated by his death.”
