Fire crews called to huge blaze near former Wolverhampton college campus - as it happened

Members of the public were urged to avoid the area

West Midlands Fire Service crews were called to a large fire affecting a building in Wolverhampton at about 3.15pm on Saturday (October 3).

The fire service said: “We have six crews attending Paget Road, Wolverhampton, where they have responded to a fire. Please avoid the area, where possible.”

Huge plumes of smoke were seen pouring into the sky from a site between Compton Park and Paget Road, in the vicinity of the former City of Wolverhampton College site and Wolf Mountain activity centre.

West Midlands Police officers also attended and closed off roads.
