Schools invited to interpret and perform the Black Country Anthem their own way in new project
The initiative invites pupils to create and perform their own interpretations of the Black Country Anthem
Schools across the Black Country are being invited to take part in an exciting new creative initiative to mark Black Country Day.
The Black Country Anthem Schools Project encourages pupils to create and perform their own interpretation of the Black Country Anthem, celebrating what the region means to them through music, performance, and storytelling.
Open to primary, secondary, and SEND schools, the project offers young people the opportunity to showcase their creativity in a wide range of forms.
This can range from original lyrics and contemporary styles such as rap and spoken word, to more traditional performances including choirs and bands.
Organisers said they hope the project will inspire pupils to explore the Black Country’s rich heritage, culture, and identity, while building confidence, teamwork, and pride in their local community, ahead of Black Country Day on July 14.
A spokesman for the Black Country Festival said: “This project is all about giving young people a voice and a platform to celebrate where they come from.
“We’re excited to see how schools interpret the Black Country Anthem in their own unique and creative ways, and to bring everyone together for a fantastic shared performance.”
Participating schools must submit a filmed performance, with entries judged on creativity, musicality, pupil involvement, and overall impact.
The closing date for entries is June 19, with the project culminating in a live performance event on July 1 where winners will be announced the winners will then perform on the Black Country Day celebrations.
This project forms part of the wider celebrations marking Black Country Day on July 14 showcasing the talent, creativity, and spirit of the region’s young people.
