Knights, lords and ladies rode on gilded horses to West Bromwich Manor House Museum's Bromwich Hall to take part in a grand reenactment event focusing on medieval history.

The event, organised by Sandwell Museums and acted by Buckingham's Retinue, saw, archers, pheasants and even armoured knights take to the halls to teach and celebrate everything history.

Jane Hanney-Martin, museum services manager for Sandwell Museums, said: "It was absolutely fantastic. It was a weekend-long history event but it was also very active, there was so much available for people to see and do.

"We had loads of visitors across the weekend, even though it was raining on Sunday."

Jane continued: "At the event, we had knights on horseback, knight fighting, posh ladies and lords, soldiers, everything that helped to really bring history to life.

"There were also educational costumed talks for people who had questions and the children could do an explorer trail and get involved in medieval arts and crafts. It was amazing."

One of the features of this year's event was the destination, with Jane saying that the setting 'helped to really set the scene'.

Jane said: "What's special is that these sorts of events usually happen in the countryside. But it's great to put it on in a place like this, an urban environment that is accessible.

"The people who are being portrayed would have lived in West Bromwich too, especially in Bromwich Hall. It really helped to set the scene and get the history to jump off the page."

Jane said she hopes to see the event return next year bigger and better than ever.

Jane added: "It was really great to see everyone's faces light up when they saw the elegantly dressed ladies and lords, and the shining knights.

"We hope that it returns next year."
