Busy Wolverhampton route closed due to 'risk of road collapse' near demolition site
Motorists have been left facing delays and diversions near a major road after a section was closed off due to fears of a road collapse.
Motorists heading into Wolverhampton have been left facing days of disruption with a section of road currently closed due to concerns of a “collapse”.

The junction of the Parkfield Road and Birmingham New Road was closed off in one direction today (Monday, May 18) with the closure going back as far as Bowen Street and traffic diverted along Parkfield Crescent.
There was also a lane closure on Birmingham New Road up to Dimmock Street, with the closure set around a demolition site at the junction.

Signs set up on both sides said the closures were due to “risk of road collapse”, with an additional sign stating the closures would be in place from May 18 to May 22.

A spokesman for Wolverhampton Council said: "The temporary one-way closure of both Parkfield Road, and the right-hand turn on Birmingham New Road, opposite Dimmock Street, expected to be in place until May 22, is precautionary only while preparatory works are carried out on a nearby supermarket development site."
