Recovery continues at aluminium manufacturer

Company has seen a reduction in pre-tax losses but remains in the red as it boosts turnover through targeting new markets and products

A manufacturer has welcomed a drop in pre-tax losses and boost in turnover as it continues its turnaround project.

Bridgnorth Aluminium makes aluminium coils for printing plates and packaging among other uses and employs more than 300 people at its plant in south Shropshire.

Its latest filed accounts for the year to December 31, 2025 showed pre-tax losses fell from £7.27 million to £2.34 million while turnover climbed by £62.3 million to £292.3 million.

It said the recovery had been underpinned by successful restructuring actions and a focus on operational efficiency, tighter control of costs and improved product quality.

The company has also benefited from expanding its target markets and winning international business alongside investment including a new thin gauge slitting line and the commissioning of a £1.6m filtration system.

Bridgnorth Aluminium can trace its roots back to 1933 and recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of ownership by Greek industrial group Viohalco.

Head of sales Adrian Musgrave said: "We have made strong progress in reducing dependence on our traditional markets and expanding into higher-growth sectors, including packaging, construction and electric vehicles.

"The latter, in particular, is delivering significant opportunity and this was reinforced by our recent landmark deal with Lotte Aluminium Materials USA.

"This five-year agreement will see us deliver battery-grade aluminium foil to one of the world's leading suppliers of advanced materials for the battery industry.

"We believe deals like the one with Lotte offer a potential blueprint for other Bridgnorth Aluminium partners to follow. Investment has continued despite recent challenges and volatile energy prices.

"At the same time, lenders and shareholders have demonstrated continued confidence through expanded borrowing facilities and ongoing support from parent company Viohalco.

"Thanks to the commitment of our senior leadership team and the outstanding dedication of our 330 employees, we have successfully moved from stabilisation into recovery, with stronger profitability, improving operational performance, diversification into growth markets and a much clearer platform for sustainable future growth.

"Aluminium is a critical material for the UK economy and we are determined to drive its evolution over the coming years."
