New shop, takeaway and flats to replace demolished dilapidated Wolverhampton buildings
Two dilapidated city centre shops that were demolished will be rebuilt alongside new flats after plans received the backing of a council.
The work would see a new shop and takeaway built on the corner of Broad Street and Thornley Street in Wolverhampton city centre – replacing a “structurally unsound” building that was demolished at the start of last year.
The planning application, which was submitted more than a year ago, has now been approved by City of Wolverhampton Council.
The local authority said the building had “remained vacant and in poor condition for some time” and it was “keen to see redevelopment progress without delay.”
A report outlining the council’s approval said: “This revised scheme proposes an increase in scale to improve the quality and size of the residential accommodation, while retaining the approved mixed-use character of the site.
