Plans for new Dudley EV station and coffee pod approved
Plans for a new electric vehicle charging station in Dudley have been approved at the second attempt.
A patch of vacant land next to Farthings Lane, Dudley will be cleared to make way for 11 EV charging points and a coffee pod.
The site is located between Duncan Edwards Way and Thornleigh Trading Estate, it will be accessed from the north through the trading estate.
The application was previously refused by the council in October 2024 and an appeal to the government Planning Inspectorate was dismissed in February 2025.
The previous application was rejected by the council on the grounds a loss of trees would impact the visual amenity of the area, the scheme would result in a loss of green infrastructure and the site is within a high risk development area from historic mine workings and not enough information was provided with the application for an informed risk assessment.

In dismissing the appeal the inspector agreed with the council on the lack of detailed information about mining hazards but found in favour of the applicant in the other two issues.
A report from council officers on the latest application said: “The proposed development has been carefully assessed against national and local planning policies.
“While the scheme would result in the loss of protected trees within a designated Green Network area, it is acknowledged that the public benefits of facilitating low-carbon infrastructure outweigh the harm, as supported by the findings of the Planning Inspectorate.”
A detailed coal mining risk assessment was also submitted with the new application.
Council officers said: “The Coal Authority have raised no objection to the proposed development following their latest guidance which makes this form of development exempt.
“Given the above, it is considered that the development has overcome the previous reason for refusal and that the development is acceptable in accordance with land stability.”
