Councillor looking forward to ‘spades in the ground’ on housing development in Stourbridge
A Dudley councillor is looking forward to spades in the ground at a new innovative housing development in Stourbridge.
Planners at the authority recently granted permission for the second phase of a 22-home scheme which will provide flats for social rent.
GreenSquareAccord, a housing provider serving the West Midlands, has worked closely with Stourbridge Community Land Trust (CLT) to deliver the Stourbridge Pawerhaus on Enville Street.
Councillor Ellen Cobb, ward member for Lye and Stourbridge North, is a Stourbridge CLT board member.
Councillor Cobb said: “With thousands on the waiting list for housing in Dudley, these new social homes cannot come quickly enough.
“I applaud the efforts of Stourbridge CLT who have persevered through all kinds of challenges to get to this point. I look forward to seeing shovels in the ground next year.”

Construction is expected to start in early 2026 once a building contractor has been appointed.
The site is next to several listed buildings including the Victorian Alexandra House and a 17th century Quaker meeting hall.
The first part of the project will involve demolition of a derelict house on the site which has been vacant for more than 20 years.
Eddy Morton, Chair of Stourbridge CLT said: “We are really pleased that this development has been supported by all sides of the political spectrum.
“The Stourbridge PowerHaus project is also about community cohesion, combining social, economic and environmental value and will be owned and held in trust by the community of Stourbridge in perpetuity.
“The development, designed in partnership with GSA, will be car free and built to the highest environmental standards.
“The Stourbridge PowerHaus will incorporate a shared workspace for increased home working, a roof garden, solar panels, electric bike scheme and dedicated recycling area.”
Mike Nolan, head of development at GreenSquareAccord (GSA) added: “Once complete, this scheme will become an asset for the local community.
“This scheme will not only help address housing need in the town but transform an eye-sore site into a thriving community of new social homes.
“We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Stourbridge CLT to deliver this scheme.”
