Every application to be decided on at Walsall Council’s next planning meeting
Three items are set to be decided at an upcoming meeting of Walsall Council’s planning committee.
Scheduled to take place on Thursday September 4 at 5.30pm, members will vote on each application which have all been called in by ward councillors.

The proposals involve a new residential institution in Streetly, a replacement five-bedroom home in Paddock, and the construction of a three-bedroom family home on a storage yard in Aldridge.

Each application has been called in by councillors opposing the recommendations of the authority’s planning officers.

10 Grove Way, Walsall, B742JD
The first application to be decided at the meeting is a proposal to convert a semi-detached home in Streetly into a residential institution for up to two children aged 8-17 and three staff.
The property at 10 Grove Way is a three-bedroom home with a driveway for up to three vehicles.
The plans, submitted by Keys for Life Ltd, involve converting the existing garage into a downstairs room.
Walsall Council’s planning officers have recommended that the application be approved, subject to conditions.
The decision was called in by Councillor Sarah Cooper, who objected to the application believing there are inadequate parking and access arrangements.
As well as Councillor Cooper’s objection, 17 others were submitted to the council against the plans.
A petition was also signed by 131 people, who believed if the application was to be approved it would impact the residential character of the area, cause noise disturbance, traffic and parking issues.
No objections were received by the statutory consultees, except for West Midlands Police, which had concerns over the business of the applicant, staff training, qualifications and DBS status, plus the lack of site management plan and lack of lighting and security information.
15 Richard Road, Walsall, WS53QW
The next application on the list was called in by Councillor Amo Hussain, who disagrees with the planning officer’s recommendation of refusal.
He said the decision required ‘delicate judgement’.
The plans, submitted by M Aqil, involve converting a three-bedroom house at 15 Richard Road into a five bedroom house with balcony.
One neighbour has objected to the plans, stating it would be out of character and would result in a loss of light. No comments were received in support of the plans.
The council has recommended a refusal because the size and scale would be incongruous and out of character for Richard Road.
41 Walton Road, Aldridge, WS9 8HN
The final item to be considered is the construction of a three bedroom dwelling on the site of a storage yard in Aldridge.
Applicant Mr Craig Matthews had hoped to build a three bedroom family home at the rear of 41 Walton Road with access off Northgate.
It’s the second time the plans have been brought before the planning committee, the first being in April 2025.
Officers had recommended the plans for refusal, but Councillor Tim Wilson disagreed and called the decision in.
The earlier reasons for refusal were discrepancies throughout the plans, visually incongruous and over dominant, no vehicle turning space and a ‘mass of brick wall’ which would be a detriment to neighbours at 35-39 Walton Road.
There were also objections from environmental protection, highways and Natural England.
At that meeting members chose to defer the decision to allow the applicant time to overcome some of the reasons for refusal.
Now it will be back before the committee again, but Walsall Council’s officers have again recommended it for refusal because none of the previous reasons have been satisfactorily addressed.
The planning committee meeting is scheduled to take place at 5.30pm, September 4, at Walsall Council House.
