Victorian pub in Bloxwich could be turned into convenience store and flats
A Victorian pub in Bloxwich could be transformed if new plans are approved by Walsall Council.
A proposal has been submitted to convert The Bell, on the corner of High Street and Bell Lane, into a convenience store and two flats.
The Banks’s pub, which dates back to the late 1800s, closed to the public two years ago.
Applicant H+R Birmingham Ltd hopes to turn the ground floor space into the retail unit, and the first floor into two self-contained one-bedroom flats.
The plans also detail a single-storey extension to the rear for use as storage for the convenience shop.
The beer garden would be turned into additional parking for customers, with access via Bell Lane and The Green, creating a total of 18 spaces.

The applicant hopes to remove the existing bay window on the ground floor and replace it with the main customer entrance.
Residents in the upper floor flats will have a separate access door from the side of the building.
H+R Birmingham Ltd said: “The new use will revitalise the currently vacant premises, contributing to the vibrancy and safety of the area through active use, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring the building remains well-maintained and integrated within the local economy.
“While the public house use is no longer viable or in demand, the proposed convenience store represents a beneficial community-focused use of the building.”
