A multi-million pound housing scheme providing 106 affordable homes in the heart of West Bromwich is nearing completion.

A show home was recently unveiled on the £17million Bagnall Street development site, which when complete will provide two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom family homes, which will be available for rent, short-term rent or rent-to-buy.

The project to develop the former industrial site is being led by housing and care organisation Midland Heart.

The group has worked in partnership with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, and Mansell.

Carl Larter, from Midland Heart, said: "This is such an exciting stage of the development, the show homes look fantastic and we cannot wait for the local community and our partners to see the finished work.

"Bagnall Street offers local people new, well designed, high quality family homes, in an area where there is high demand."

The new development has been designed around an old canal and will create a park area for residents.

The scheme due to be completed next month and has enabled the creation of eight new apprenticeships.

The apprentice bricklayers, plasterers and carpenters, are being drawn from Future Skills Sandwell, which offers a range of support services working with local employers to help people into employment.

Simon Liversage from Mansell, which develops projects including affordable housing, said: "We are confident that the skills these apprentices can gain will help them go forward."
