Government’s housing minister invited to Black Country green belt protest this weekend
The MP for Aldridge-Brownhills has invited the housing minister to attend a protest against green belt homes this weekend.
Wendy Morton wrote to Steve Reed, the secretary of state for housing, communities and local government, saying constituents in the area feel they are ‘under siege from developers’.
Demonstrators, led by campaign group Stop the Build on Aldridge Green Belt, plan to march through the town on Saturday (February 28) starting from the Croft at midday.

More than 7,000 homes have been allocated across green belt sites in the Aldridge and Brownhills areas alone.
Ms Morton has called on the minister to attend the rally so he can explain to residents "face to face" the Government’s definition of 'grey belt'. Labour has designated some sites in the protected green belt 'grey belt' to encourage development.
In her letter she wrote: “My constituents feel as though our villages are under siege from developers.
“On behalf of all of my constituents I cordially invite you to attend the rally so that you can explain to them face-to-face the Government’s definition of grey belt.
“In turn they will then be able to show you the sites under siege from developers and you can judge for yourself whether you can justify this term being misused by your government and developers as you destroy some of our finest countryside and agricultural land.”
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has approached the Government for comment.
