Candidates revealed for Cannock Chase Council by-election in Hednesford
Seven candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for next month’s Cannock Chase Council by-election.
The Hednesford Green Heath ward currently has a vacancy following the death of Fred Prestwood in May.
The Labour member was vice-chair of the council at the time of his sudden death, aged 67. Council colleagues across the political spectrum paid tribute to his community work at their May meeting.
A by-election for the Hednesford Green Heath seat will be held on Thursday, August 7, when polls will be open in the ward from 7am to 10pm. Seven candidates are standing for election, including a number of former council members.

The closing date for residents to register to vote, if they have not done so previously, is Tuesday, July 22. The closing time for postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday, July 23, and those who need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate or proxy vote have until 5pm on Wednesday, July 30, to do so.
