The Wyre Forest MP is facing an investigation into whether he broke ministerial rules after he admitted asking his secretary Caroline Edmondson to buy two sex toys from a shop in Soho.

He has also admitted calling her 'sugar tits' at a bar.

Breaking his week-long silence on the issue, International Trade Minister Mr Garnier said the events, that were said to have happened in 2010, had been reported out of context.

He also insisted that he had not 'force or pressure' Ms Edmondson into doing anything.

Mr Garnier is reported to have said: “The events of 2010 concerning myself and a former member of staff have been reported outside the context and circumstances in which they occurred.

“At the time we were friends, and I want to be clear that I did not force or pressure her into doing anything.

“It is right that the public expect high standards of behaviour from their elected representatives, and I apologise to my constituents that this situation has occurred.”

Ms Edmondson quit her role shortly after both incidents occurred and now works as Commons Secretary to former Cabinet Minister John Whittingdale.
