Theresa May exclusive: Back me, not the man with no plan
A year ago, people in the Black Country and Staffordshire voted for a better and brighter future for our country, outside the European Union.
They chose to take a bold and optimistic step towards a better future for their children and grandchildren. The job for the Government now is to act on that clear instruction and to deliver a Brexit deal which works for Britain.
The opportunities presented by Brexit are great – we have the chance to forge a new and positive role for ourselves in the world as a global trading nation. We can take back control of our borders, our money and our laws.
Alongside getting the right deal for Britain abroad, we have the greatest opportunity for a generation to get a better deal for ordinary working people here at home.
Because last year people did not just vote to leave the EU, they voted to change the way our country works, and for whom it works, forever.
But in order to succeed in this great national endeavor, we will need the right leadership.
The better future we all want for Britain will not just come about of itself. It will take determination and hard-work. Crucially, it will take strong and stable leadership from a team which has a plan to deliver.
I have that clear and credible plan. I am excited and optimistic and the bright future which we can build for Britain as we leave the European Union and forge a new role for ourselves in the world.
I am confident that we can make a success of it because I believe in Britain – in our country and in our people.
Today, people in the Black Country and Staffordshire and their fellow citizens right across the United Kingdom, have the chance to play their part in securing that better future.
It is a chance to get behind the decision our country made a year ago and to join me in the national effort we need to fulfil that promise. I am confident that together we can do it.
As we leave the EU, I want to help areas like the Black Country and Staffordshire to seize the great opportunities of the future.
Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands has a tremendous industrial heritage, and a proud legacy of manufacturing and commerce.
Our modern Industrial Strategy will help this area thrive in the future. To make that happen, we need to ensure that we have the rights skills in our workforce.
So we will also make sure every child gets the best start in life by increasing school funding every year and we will ensure that for the first time in our country we have a proper system of technical education.
By striking new trade deals for goods and services with new friends and old partners around the world, the global Britain we will build in the years ahead will open up new opportunities for businesses in this area, leading to more and better-paid jobs, with new rights and protections for workers.
That will all add up to greater economic security for working families and opportunity for young people.
I will always make helping working families a central priority. For too many people, life is much harder than many politicians realise and people rightly expect their government to help them where it can.
So we will tackle the cost of living by capping rip-off energy tariffs and keeping taxes low.
We will help more people have a home of their own by building more affordable houses. And because of the strong economy which a Conservative government will sustain, we will be able to increase the NHS budget every year, to ensure every family has the care they need.
But without a successful Brexit, none of this will be possible. And we will only get a successful Brexit if we have strong and stable leadership from a competent and credible Government.
A vote for me and my local Conservative candidates in the Black Country and Staffordshire, will strengthened my hand to get the best deal for our country in the Brexit negotiations and will help our country to make the most of the opportunities Brexit brings.
A vote for any other party in these elections risks putting Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street, at the head of a coalition of chaos made up of the minor parties.
That threat is real – if I lose just six seats my majority will be gone and Jeremy Corbyn will become Prime Minister.
With the Brexit negotiations set to begin just 11 days after the general election, that would bad for the Black Country and Staffordshire and bad for Britain.
A man with no plan and zero credibility would be flying blind into the most crucial negotiations the UK has faced in generations, while at the same time stitching together a ramshackle coalition at Westminster.
You can help stop that from happening by backing me today. If they do, I give them a firm commitment. I will work hard every day to deliver on my plan for a successful Brexit and a brighter future.
Together, I know we can succeed.
