5. An unforgettable hen night dash wrapped in smiles
A cheekily unforgettable pre-wedding party! Bride-to-be Karen Laight, aged 23, along with her friend Mandy Sayce and sister Lorraine Laight, shared a huge laugh after a wild hen night prank in February 1983 left them braving the cold Walsall streets with little more than smiles and towels. Stripped by fellow revellers during their big night out, the giggling trio turned heads and brought late-night traffic to a total standstill as they made their legendary trek home. Despite the chilly journey, the high-spirited adventure was taken in complete good humour, and Karen's wedding to fiancé Carl went off without a hitch! | Express & Star archive

6. Coaching a comedy legend for a dip in the deep end
A proper aquatic task! On March 10, 1961, cross-channel swimmer Bill Pickering, from Bloxwich, takes comedian Ken Dodd through his paces in the pool. Bill made the journey from his home twice a week to give Ken swimming lessons in Coventry ahead of his summer season, helping the star upgrade from paddling to proper ocean swimming. Supporting a splashing and wide-eyed Ken in the water, the record-breaking swimmer showed immense patience as he traded open-water training for pure comedic chaos. | ©PA

7. Wrestling a giant prize to help out the chapel
Talk about carrying your weight! Eight-year-old Daniel Perry of Horsley Heath grins widely as he lugs around a giant cuddly dog during a Saturday morning table sale at Centenary Methodist Chapel in Tipton. Organised by Sunday school helpers in June 1993, the weekly outdoor sales brought the local community together for much-needed fundraising, with young helpers doing their bit to support the beloved place of worship. | Express & Star archive
