Detroit Electric to announce plans for full EV model range
British manufacturer will use a recent £1.4bn investment to help fund new model line-up
Detroit Electric is to outline its future product line-up at Millbrook next week.
The UK-based electric vehicle (EV) start-up will make its first appearance at Cenex’s Low Carbon Vehicles 2017 event on September 6 and 7, where it will outline its plans to launch a full range of passenger EVs.
A recent £1.4bn investment in the form of a joint venture has enabled the company to go through with its plans, and will also contribute to a recruitment drive that will see Detroit Electric fill between 150 and 200 posts by spring.
Chief technical officer and company director Richie Frost, said: “Having secured the solid financial foundation to embark on our business plan, we’re now building up our team to enable us to deliver our ambitious vehicle engineering programmes.
“This represents an opportunity to be a major part of an incredibly exciting, fast-moving company, as we begin the most exciting EV development projects in the UK. I think that differentiates us from other employers.
“We’re looking forward to having a chance to meet some of the UK’s most talented engineers in this field expected at Cenex and to share these exciting future plans with them.”
In order to deliver its business plan, Detroit Electric plans to invest to expand its engineering and manufacturing base in Leamington Spa, which will act alongside its engineering hub in China.
In 2015, Detroit Electric produced the first example of its SP:01 pure-electric sports car. Thanks to a 281bhp electric motor, the SP:01 can sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.7 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 155mph.
