Porsche has officially unveiled its hotly-anticipated 911 GT2 RS at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The high-performance sports car – which was first showcased at the E3 gaming expo in California in June – produces a staggering 690bhp and 750Nm of torque from its twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, making the GT2 RS the most-powerful street-legal 911 of all time.

The sprint from 0-60mph is dispatched in 2.7 seconds, while the car’s top speed stands at 211mph.

Using the same 3.8-litre engine as the 911 Turbo S, Porsche has equipped the power plant with larger turbochargers, as well as a new water cooling system to increase performance in the GT2 RS. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch PDK gearbox.

Weighing in at 1,470kg with a full tank of petrol, the GT2 RS makes use of a number of weight-saving materials, including carbon-fibre panelling, a magnesium roof and ceramic composite brakes.

For an additional $31,000 (£23,905), Porsche will equip the car with its Weissach Pack, which strips an additional 18kg from the car. The package includes magnesium wheels and even more carbon fibre – the roof and anti-roll bars are just two parts of the car that are fashioned out of the lightweight material when this package is equipped.

The interior is finished in generous amounts of red Alcantara, black leather and carbon fibre trim pieces as standard. The Porsche Communication Management system houses controls for the audio, satellite navigation and communication functions.

Porsche also chose to unveil its new 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. With 599bhp on tap, this model claims the title of being the most powerful 911 Turbo S ever produced, and will be limited to a production run of just 500 units.

The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS will cost from £207,506 in the UK.
