Audi reveals Q8 Sport concept alongside all-new RS 5 Coupe
Mild hybrid Q8 Sport concept utilises technology first seen in the SQ7 TDI
Audi has unveiled an innovative new Q8 Sport concept, as well as a new RS5.
Powered by a six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine combined with a mild hybrid system, it produces 469bhp and can reach 60mph in just 4.5 seconds, carrying on until it reaches a top speed of 170mph.
It uses technology currently seen in the SQ7 TDI, which makes it capable of delivering the economy levels of a smaller four-cylinder engine but with increased power levels.
All of this performance is based in a sports SUV form, making it not only quick but practical too.
Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management at Audi AG, said: “The drive system of the Audi Q8 Sport concept is a major step towards optimising efficiency and sustainability in large-volume series production. The combination of mild hybrid technology and a TFSI [turbocharged petrol] engine sets a new benchmark for the synthesis of electromobility and combustion engines. In the future, this combination will be used in many Audi models.”
Also revealed was the all-new RS 5 Coupe. Powered by a 2.9-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the RS 5 can reach 60mph in just 3.7 seconds, and hit a top speed of 155mph – though this can be increased to 174mph with an optional pack. An impressive 600Nm of torque means that the RS 5 Coupe has plenty of low-down shove, ideal for overtaking.

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, said: ““The new Audi RS 5 Coupe is the gran turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The high-performance Coupe combines elegant aesthetics with high everyday usability.
“The car’s V6 bi-turbo has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency.”
Orders for the new RS 5 Coupe are expected to open in May, with first deliveries taking place in the summer.
