According to a recent poll by Evans Halshaw half of drivers in the West Midlands wait until the windscreen gets frosted over before they stock up on winter driving essentials like de-icer, scraper and blankets. With Britain due to face one of the coldest winters in recent years, the UK's leading car dealership is offering a helping hand to keep customers and their cars safe this winter.
Evans Halshaw commissioned research to see how many drivers across the UK are ready to tackle the imminent snow, fog and ice. It turns out that 15 per cent of people have already stocked up on salt for the drive, but 39 per cent don't have a clue where their local grit box is, and when it's supposed to be used in icy conditions.
For those who need a little winter preparation kickstart, Evans Halshaw dealerships across the West Midlands, with sites in Birmingham, Stourbridge and West Bromwich are offering customers in the area free winter health checks* to ensure their vehicles are weather-proof. The comprehensive health check includes a thorough inspection of a car's tyres, steering, brakes, lights, wipers, suspension, exhaust, battery and fluid (which the dealership will top up if needs be, free of charge**).
Of those surveyed in the West Midlands, 44 per cent make sure they have at least a bottle of water in the car during winter in case they get stuck, whilst 40 per cent ensure they have roadside assistance cover, should the unforeseen happen.
In fact, nearly a quarter of drivers in the West Midlands find themselves needing to wake up more than 30 minutes earlier in the morning just to get the car ready to drive in the winter.

There is a lot to prepare to ensure a car is safe to tackle the elements, and due to lack of time and awareness many don't think about getting winter ready until the first cold snap hits.
