Love is in the air - and hard work is underway inside popular Bridgnorth flower shop for Valentine's Day
Love is in the air – and business is blooming for one of the busiest days of the year for florists.

Kim Steffen, owner of The Petal Bar, on High Street, Bridgnorth, has revealed the stresses of owning one of the busiest flower shops in town on the most romantic day of the year.
For many people, Valentine's Day is a day of love, romance and togetherness, however, for a forgetful few (myself included) it's a day full of stress-buying last-minute flowers, teddy bears and chocolates.
So, many might ask, what do our wonderful saviours, the brilliant owners of our local flower shops, get up to on the special day, and how busy are they really?
Well for Kim, it's an early morning full of designing flower arrangements, sending out special orders and selling on-the-day bouquets.

Kim, who has owned the flower shop for five years, from Bridgnorth, said: "We are fortunate to be very busy, our customers are really loyal so we do get a lot of pre-orders.
"We are still taking walk-in orders on the day so, yeah it's very very busy."
The flower shop owner sells items ranging from beautiful bouquets to candles and teddy bears, perfect for those last-minute gifts.

But what are their most popular items that customers can't help but buy each year?
The florist said: "The candles are really really popular, people always tend to buy them.
"Vases to go along with the flowers is a very sensible choice, everyone needs a vase."

Valentine's Day tends to be one of the busiest days of the year for many local florists, with many taking hundreds or even thousands of flower orders each year on the run-up to the lovely day.
But we wanted to know what types of flowers are on sale at The Petal Bar that customers keep on returning to buy.
Kim said: "Our top five flowers would have started with the red Naomi roses, which is just a beautiful rose.
"Next is white avalanche roses, white lilies, and then people like to mix things up with lisianthus and gerbera. They are all beautiful flowers."

So, you might be asking yourself, how do flower shop owners spend their Valentine's Day? Do they still receive flowers from their loved ones? And do their loved ones ever forget?
Kim added: "We are all peaks during the day. We work hard up until the end of play for the day. But we will probably celebrate the day on Saturday instead.
"I think Friday will be a bit of recovery, and then Saturday we will go for a nice meal.

"Sometimes he is sneaky and he tries to ask one of the girls in the shop to buy the flowers from here, we actually do it a lot for each other. Most of the time we support the other florists though and we pop somewhere local to us."
The florist went on to reveal that she had already sold all of the roses that she pre-ordered days before and that she had had 'a few hundred' orders for the day.
She ended: "We have actually sold out of all the roses that we pre-ordered, which is the same as last year, we sold out then too.
"I think we have had a few hundred pre-order bouquets for the day. It's going to be very busy."
