Codsall development plans to create 180 homes
Detailed plans have been submitted for a multi-million pound housing development which will see 180 new homes built in Codsall.
The scheme would amount to a significant extension of the village with the houses constructed on land between Sandy Lane and Watery Lane.
The site, which is roughly the size of 11 football pitches and is located to the village's north, is currently used as grazing land.
The proposals have been put forward by housing giant Taylor Wimpey and it is hoped work will start by the end of the year.
The site had been owned by Staffordshire County Council but was sold last month to Taylor Wimpey in a deal believed to be in the region of £38 million.
Outline planning permission had already been granted for 180 homes in July last year. The latest application provides the exact details of the scheme, including layout and access.
The development will feature more than five acres of public open space, including one at the centre and a green corridor around its boundary.
Access to the new homes will be via a tree-lined boulevard.
The scheme will encompass a range of property types, some of which will be bungalows, featuring between one and five bedrooms.
A total of 72 of the properties will be 'affordable' homes, half of which will be for shared ownership and the other half for rental agreements.
A public consultation event over the plans was held in March.
The developer said it sent around 400 invites but just 25 residents attended which it said was a "disappointing" turnout.
Guy Bicknell, senior land manager at Taylor Wimpey, said: "With a prime position to the north of the village, surrounded by green belt land, it is a prime residential development location. We're naturally delighted to have secured this site.
"The village setting is desirable and, with its transport links and proximity to Wolverhampton and Birmingham, we're confident that this will be a highly sought-after destination."
"It speaks volumes for its potential to deliver much-needed housing to the area that we were able to secure the sale to Taylor Wimpey so quickly.
"Codsall is a fantastic village with a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants and a number of highly-rated schools in the immediate area.
"We understood the council's desire to ensure a legacy use for this land, which enabled us to secure outline planning consent, bring it to market and secure the sale to Taylor Wimpey quickly and effectively."
