Sergeant Shirley Worrall, 42, appeared at the special case hearing in Birmingham yesterday after being convicted of drink driving last month.

The hearing was scheduled following her conviction after she crashed into the Vauxhall garage in Spon Lane on February 17 while off duty.

Worrall, who worked in Stechford and previously in Smethwick, was arrested and admitted drink driving in front of Birmingham magistrates on March 17.

She was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £500 and ordered to pay costs of £135.

West Midlands Police spokesman Deb Edmonds confirmed last night Worrall was sacked with immediate effect for gross misconduct.

A previous police statement said: "On February 17 PS Worrall was involved in a road traffic collision with a garage frontage.

"She was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. PS Worrall was convicted at court on March 17."
