Christmas Toy Appeal: Sir Lenny Henry backs Star bid to bring festive cheer
Sir Lenny Henry has become the latest Black Country big name to throw his backing behind the Express & Star's toy appeal.
The comedian, who was raised in Dudley and received a Knighthood last week, was pictured with an oversized teddy bear to show his support for the project.
He said: "This is a great cause for people to come forward and support this Christmas."
This newspaper has teamed up with Shrewsbury-based Storage King to bring festive joy to youngsters who are facing difficult times.
Toys, games and DVDs have been brought into our collection points across the Black Country.
We are still appealing for new toys which will support children's wards at Walsall Manor, Wolverhampton New Cross, Dudley Russell's Hall and Sandwell hospitals, as well the Caparo staff who lost their jobs in the steel crisis and youngsters backed by Acorns Children's Hospice.
The deadline for donations is December 18,
Deputy editor Diane Davies said: "The response to our appeal has been fantastic and we are glad that we will also be able to help provide much needed funds for Acorns Children's Hospice."
Drop-off bins have been set up at the Express & Star's offices in Wolverhampton and Storage King depots in Station Street in Walsall, Unit 8 Ionic Park in Birmingham New Road, Dudley and 133 Birmingham Road, West Bromwich.
