Two injured as cars set on fire in crash between Kidderminster and Stourbridge

Two men were injured following a crash between Kidderminster and Stourbridge.

Heavy disruptions were reported following a crash on the A541 Stourbridge Road, near Sugar Loaf Lane, in Ismere, this morning.

Police, fire and ambulance were called to the scene at around 7.11am, following reports of a collision involving two vehicles on the route.

The vehicles were reported to have caught fire following the incident, with the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service quickly working to quell the blaze.

Traffic was brought to a standstill following the crash, with Stourbridge Road being closed in both directions. 

The fire service reported that two casualties, both men, were handed over to the care of the ambulance services.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We received a call around 7:15am this morning with a report of a collision on Stourbridge Road in Kidderminster.

"Officers arrived to find two vehicles involved and remained at the scene to manage the traffic."

A fire spokesperson added: "The incident involved two vehicles, both of which were on all four wheels and well alight.

"The fire was fought by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet.

"All persons were accounted for, with two male casualties handed over to the care of the ambulance service.

"Police were also present and initiated a road closure.

"Highways were also requested to attend as there was a large quantity of oil and damage to the carriageway caused by fire.

"Crews are attempting to make the vehicles safe and remain at the scene."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one ambulance attended the scene, with one man being treated for 'potentially serious injuries'.

A ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.17am to a road traffic collision involving two cars at the junction of Stourbridge Road and Beachtree Lane, Ismere.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival we found two men who were the drivers of the vehicles. 

"The first man was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. He was conveyed to Alexandra Hospital for further assessment. 

"The second man was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. He received self care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene."
