Local scheme aims to get more children playing hockey

A local hockey club is set to reprise a scheme that aims to encourage state school children to take up the sport. The scheme will be run at Bewdley, Wilden and St Bartholomew's and is aimed at Year 5 and 6 classes.

Stourport Hockey Club, who've received support from England Hockey, who've supplied sticks and balls, first ran the scheme at Bewdley Primary, Lickhill, and St Wulstan's schools last term, with the club receiving very positive feedback from the children having really enjoyed the sessions.

The aim is to expose children to hockey and encourage them to take up the sport by joining Stourport's junior section, whose training sessions take place on a Wednesday at 6.30pm, at the club's pitches at The Kingsway. At the end of the sessions, in April, the children from the different schools will take part in a tournament so they can put into practice all the skills that they've learnt during the sessions.
