£300k facelift for public house re-opening its doors in Wolverhampton

A community public house is about to re-open its doors for business after a revamp costing almost £300,000.

Staff at the Silver Spur, in Glenworth Gardens, in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, will be welcoming customers with a guest band on Thursday (March 5) at the premises which is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community of enterprise arm of Admiral Taverns.

The group has pumped £274,632 into the makeover which has seen the the pub transformed to include brand new flooring, furnishings and fittings, four flat screen televisions, a brand new main bar and snug area along with two new pool tables, and two dart boards in an effort to breathe a fresh lease of life into the site. There is also new lights, signs as well as a refurbished garden with 130 seats featuring both covered and open air.

Silver Spur operator Paul Walding said: “I am thrilled to be taking over The Silver Spur and have loved seeing the incredible transformation come to life over the past few weeks. 

"The pub is already looking terrific and I can’t wait to welcome back customers, both regulars and new customers.”

Paul has more than 20 years experience to The Silver Spur and is aiming to create a lively social hub for local residents to enjoy to further cement the pub at the heart of the community. Families and pets are welcome. He is also hoping to support all aspects of community life including food bank collections,  fundraising projects for a lifesaving defibrillator installed and charity events in aid of good causes.

The pub will officially re-open to the community at 6pm on March 5. To celebrate entertainers Mike and the Floorfillers will be playing from 8pm onwards and there will be live music performances over the weekend. Opening deals and drinks promotions.

Entertainment includes DJ karaoke every Friday from 8-11pm, a live singer every Saturday from 9-11pm and from 5-7pm every Sunday.
