Around 20 firefighters tackled the flames and smoke at The Wolves chippy, in Newhampton Road West, in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, after reports of a blaze shortly before 11.30am on February 21.

It is thought that at lease two members of staff were on the premises at the time and they evacuated after spotting the fire and dialled 999.

West Midlands Fire Service has also urged motorists to avoid the area, in particular Clifford Street and surrounding roads as dampening down continued at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

Passer-by Agne Taztaihyte, from Lithuania, aged 37, said: "I was on my way to visit friends nearby when I saw the fire and and smoke there. It was coming out of the front door. No-one seemed to be doing anything about it at the time so I went to the next door shop and asked them to call the fire people.
