A pub which had its licences revoked twice could reopen under new management after a fresh licensing application was lodged.

Wolverhampton Council's licensing committee is today due to consider an application by Tajinder Singh to reopen the Pendulum pub in Pendeford.

Mr Singh had originally planned to open until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday nights, but agreed to change this to 12.30am following concerns expressed by police and residents.

No drinks will be served after midnight.

The pub in Blaydon Road closed in June 2022 when then owner Mohammed Khalil Ali was stripped of his licence following a string of complaints from angry neighbours and calls to police.

Neighbours had called for the pub to be demolished, but Mr Ali appealed against the decision - only to fail to turn up to the hearing.

The PendulumIt was the second time in little more than two years, the pub having previously been ordered to close after drinkers were caught inside the bar at the height of the first Covid lockdown in May 2020

It was later allowed to reopen, but in spring 2023 police once more called for it to be revoked, saying it had links to criminal activity. In February 2023 police found three males living at the pub who had been working illegally.

At the time of the pub's closure, one resident called for the building to be demolished.

The application initially attracted 11 objections from residents, but three of these were withdrawn after Mr Singh agreed to modify the opening times.

One of the objectors said: "Noise level will be a nuisance like it was before This pub attracts the wrong crowds There will be idiots racing around the car park, there will be drugs there again which I don’t think is acceptable when my kids are playing in the garden and they have to smell whatever they are smoking.

"There is always trouble there, this opening back up is a let down to the community as it will just bring trouble and stress to our community."

Another wrote: "This is a residential area that has suffered years of social disharmony from this public house, due to anti social behaviour and drugs which is well known to the police.

"This area is peaceful and very family orientated. I don't know of one person who is happy for this to continue. Nobody wants this on there door step."

However, another resident who had initially objected wrote: "I’ve been liaising with the owner of the new establishment, namely the Pendeford Bar & Grill, who has verbally put my reservations at an acceptable level. So as regards to my previous complaint, I would now like to withdraw this, taking no further action against the new owner on my part."

Another added: "My opinion is they seem to be very honest and approachable and listen to any concerns I wished them my support and good luck for the future."
