Busy Wolverhampton road remains closed, but water main now repaired after gaping hole opened in carriageway

A busy road in Wolverhampton remains closed today after a gaping hole appeared in the carriageway.

Work began today rebuilding the carriageway in Lower Street, Tettenhall, after a large hole appeared about 10.30am yesterday, leading to immediate closure of the road.

A burst water main was found to be responsible.

Bystanders described watching the hole grow bigger as the road surface around it began to crack and sink. 

The hole opened up close to the junction with The Rock, one of the main roads into Wolverhampton, and close to St Michael's CE Academy.
