Protests outside the Britannia Hotel in Wolverhampton ‘pass without incident’
Police attended a planned protest between anti-immigration and anti-racism groups in Wolverhampton city centre earlier today (Saturday)
Protests were held outside the Britannia Hotel in Wolverhampton this afternoon (Saturday, March 7).
West Midlands Police attended the planned demonstration by anti-immigration and anti-racism groups and said the event ‘passed without incident’.
A spokesperson for WMP said: “Officers attended a planned protest in Wolverhampton city centre earlier today (7 March).
“As ever, our focus was on keeping people safe, and balancing the right to protest with the rights of others, to prevent crime and disorder.
“The protest has now concluded, and passed without incident.”
National Express announced bus diversions for a short period. Services are now running as normal.
Reports said that ann England flag emblazoned with the words "save our children and women" was placed on the building opposite the hotel.
While counter protesters held placards and banners reading: "We are Wolverhampton together."
The protest ended at around 3pm.
