The closures, for seven nights starting on Tuesday (March 3) will allow for the 'hydroblasting' of Penn Road, between Coalway Road and Pennhouse Avenue.

The work will prevent water from penetrating the road surface, reducing the risk of potholes.

As well as Penn Road, the closure order will also apply to Witton Road, Coalway Road, Alexandra Road, Mount Road, Woodfield Avenue, Bromley Place, Wynn Road, Muchall Road, Osborne Road, and Hartwood Crescent, although access to frontages will be maintained.

Traffic will diverted through Wombourne and Sedgley while the work takes place, between 7pm and 5am each night.

A spokesman for the council said: "This night‑time work is to retexture the road surface on Penn Road only, between its junctions with Coalway Road and Pennhouse Avenue, as part of maintenance to keep the highway safe and in good condition for all road users.

"By restoring the surface texture hydroblasting helps improve skid resistance and extends the life of our roads, preventing water ingress."

The traffic order will be in place for 18 months, but the work is expected to be complete by March 10.
