I live in Wolverhampton and the city's potholes make driving around feel like an off-road challenge
Battered roads and endless potholes are testing drivers’ patience in Wolverhampton, reflecting a wider problem across the West Midlands.
Potholes are a problem across the country so this is certainly not a Wolverhampton-only issue, but as someone who lives in the city and drives around it almost every day with work I can't help but notice them even more closer to home.
At times, it feels less like driving on city roads and more like tackling an off-road track, where a sturdy 4x4 seems better suited than an ordinary car.

It’s a habit many local drivers will recognise — easing off the accelerator, scanning the road ahead, and bracing for the inevitable jolt or sudden swerve.
I don’t set off on a journey anymore without preparing myself for the state of the roads. Whether it’s a short trip to the shops or when heading out to cover a story, I know there will be at least one point where I will be weaving around potholes, slowing suddenly for crumbling tarmac and hoping I don’t hear a thud.
