Wolverhampton pub facing review after police saw 'unreported' late-night brawl on CCTV footage
Police have called for a review of a bar and grill’s licence after a late-night brawl was allegedly left unreported.
West Midlands Police accused Jasvir Singh Johal, licence holder of The Garden Bar in Lanesfield, Wolverhampton, of a “lack of responsibility”, alleging they failed to report a brawl at the Indian grill in December last year.
The force said its officers had found CCTV of the disorder while investigating an unrelated incident.
The footage is said to show ‘physical altercations between many males’ both inside the bar and grill and outside on its car park according to a council licensing report.
Police said no 999 call was made by licence holder Jasvir Singh Johal during or after the incident, and called on Wolverhampton Council to review the venue’s licence.
The bar and grill, on the corner of Birmingham New Road and Laburnum Road, will now face Wolverhampton Council’s licensing committee on February 12.

West Midlands Police said it was made aware of an ‘unreported affray’ at Garden Bar at around 1.20am on December 13 last year after officers had found CCTV of the disorder while looking into an unrelated matter.
The force’s licensing officer said: “Upon reviewing the available CCTV footage, West Midlands Police has serious concerns regarding the the premises licence holder’s lack of responsibility and apparent disregard for the licensing objectives, specifically the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety.
“The footage shows many males involved in physical altercations inside the premises, which then continued outside into the carpark.
“At no point did the premises licence holder notify police of the ongoing incident outside the premises.”
The licence granted in January 2025 states the bar and grill can open from 7am until 11pm from Monday to Wednesday and Sunday and 7am to 1.30am from Thursday to Saturday.
The licence also allows the pub to open for a further two hours on bank holidays, an extra hour at Easter and an additional hour on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. Alcohol can be sold until half an hour before closing.
