A449 crash: Major route into Wolverhampton closed after 'serious collision'

Police are at the scene of a serious crash which has closed one of the main routes into Wolverhampton.

Wolverhampton Police say the A449 travelling into the city from the M54 Junction 2 is closed between Springfield Lane and Bee Lane.

The crash is understood to have happened between 6am and 7am on Saturday (January 10).

Photos taken on Saturday morning show a dark car with a damaged windscreen and a blue police tent set up within a cordon on the road.

One eyewitness who works at nearby Safran reported seeing a paramedic giving CPR to a person.

West Midlands Police said the road closure is set to remain in place for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

It has also affected bus services in the area, with  the 876 bus forced to divert due to the ongoing closure.

It could affect traffic going to Molineux for the FA Cup tie between Wolves and Shrewsbury Town - the game is due to kick off at 12.15pm.
